For many children raised by relatives while their parents migrate for work, the experience of being "left behind" can create deep emotional wounds, especially when it is not talked about for years. Known as Barrel Children, these individuals often grapple with abandonment, identity struggles, and the challenge of reconnecting with family later in life, the feelings and fallout of which can go on for years.
With particular emphasis on the Caribbean and African experience (those born before 1970), this workshop explores:
Early separation on emotional development.
Strategies for healing childhood trauma and rebuilding self-worth.
How to foster resilience and reclaim a sense of belonging.
Pathways for reconciliation to the living family and the generation long gone
Perfect for individuals who have experienced family separation or those supporting someone through this journey.
This is the start of a series of workshops held by Karen and/or Devon Burke. More information to come.
