There are so many events celebrating the Windrush season in June, across London, see which ones you can support.
Pegasus Opera Company will be performing at the Broadway Theatre for the first time with Windrush Migrations - Opera in Concert, celebrating stories of resilience, belonging and home to honour Windrush Day 2026!
We’d really love to connect with local communities for this event and I’d be so grateful if you were able to share this with your networks, although please could you not share the discount codes publicly anywhere - thank you!
Join Pegasus Opera Company and the Brixton Chamber Orchestra invite you to experience stirring excerpts from Migrations, first commissioned by Welsh National Opera, Cenedlaethol Cymru and Windrush Opera commissioned by Pegasus Opera Company with music by Des Oliver and libretto by Edson Burton. Through evocative music and bold storytelling, this special performance brings to life the voices, memories and lived experiences of migration.

Migrations weaves together powerful journeys from the Mayflower pilgrims risking everything for a new life, to Pero, an enslaved African man in 18th-century Bristol; from Caribbean Windrush arrivals rebuilding post-war Britain, to Indian doctors shaping the NHS ; alongside the voices of contemporary refugees navigating displacement today. Each story, written by a different librettist, brings a distinct and deeply personal perspective.
Windrush Opera tells the story of young Avril who dares to dream of a new life in Britain, she secretly boards the Empire Windrush without a ticket, only to be discovered and face imprisonment. In a powerful act of solidarity, fellow passengers come together to pay her fare, changing her life forever.
Decades later, Avril shares this long-held secret with her granddaughter Savannah, who sets out across the UK to find those who helped her. Along the way, she uncovers defining moments of Black British history, from the rise of Notting Hill Carnival to the Bristol Bus Boycott and discovers her own connection to the Windrush legacy.
Whether you’re passionate about music, history, or stories that connect us all, this promises to be a deeply inspiring evening.
